A customer portal for Responsible Casting Co.

Prepared by Launchfyi for Responsible Casting Co. A response to the Customer Portal Brief: what we understand, how we’d build it, what’s included, and what it costs.

What we heard

A private account area for your trade customers.

You want a logged-in area for your trade customers and your team. Customers place orders, upload CADs, track progress, browse their mould library and pay online. Your team uses the same portal to manage the order pipeline and keep the customer library up to date. You’re open to a subdomain or an extension of the Webflow site, as long as your team isn’t calling a developer every time you want to change a word on the marketing site.

Webflow is good at what you use it for. A transactional portal with CAD uploads, live metal prices, payments and a staff-side view is a different job. The cleaner shape is two systems: one for content, one for customers and operations.

Marketing
responsiblecasting.com

Stays on Webflow. Stays in your team’s control. No developer needed for content edits.

Portal
portal.responsiblecasting.com

New Next.js app on a subdomain, linked from the Webflow header. Customers log in and get the customer portal; your team logs in and gets the staff console. Both behind login.

Design direction

It should look and read like the rest of RCC.

The portal should read as a continuation of your marketing site, not a generic SaaS interface dropped onto a subdomain. We’ve pulled the design from responsiblecasting.com (palette, typography, voice) and carried it through to every screen.

The RCC palette, applied throughout

Olive green on cream, sage on buttons, rust reserved for moments that matter (order confirmed, ready for dispatch).

Your typography

DM Sans throughout, matching the current site. Uppercase headings with generous tracking. Olive-green ink on cream, not grey on white.

Metal prices

Large numerals with the daily change clearly shown for each metal. The first thing a jeweller wants to see when they open the portal.

A 3D viewer on upload

Customer drops an STL, sees their model rendered in the selected metal, turning slowly on a cream ground.

Order progress

Your seven casting states shown as a vertical timeline, with room to add workshop photos at each stage later on.

Mockups

We’ve mocked up three screens to give you a feel for it.

Not clickable yet, but they should give you a good sense of how the portal will look and feel before we start building.

01 · Dashboard

The metal price is the first thing you see.

Six metals with their daily change, big enough to read at a glance. Recent orders and the quick actions for uploading a CAD or starting an order sit just below.

02 · CAD upload

Upload an STL, see it rendered in your chosen metal.

The portal works out the metal weight from the file, prices it against today’s rate plus your margin, and shows the piece slowly turning in the metal the customer’s picked. They see what they’re about to buy before they place the order.

These are three of the customer screens. The rest, plus the staff-side view, get built out with your real customer data once we start.

What we’d build

Here’s everything we’d build.

The customer side first, then the staff side. We’ll lock the small details in once we start.

What your customers see

Dashboard

Live metal prices front and centre, big and easy to read. Recent orders and quick links to upload a CAD or start a new order sit just below.

Account details

Contact details, account number, saved addresses, and a running balance that reflects any credit notes on file.

Orders

A full list of every order with your seven status stages (Received, 3D Printing, Moulding, Ready to Cast, Casting Complete, Casting Failed, Ready for Dispatch or Collection), shown as a vertical timeline. Below it, the customer sees their invoices and credit notes with a pay-now button on anything outstanding. They also get an email automatically when an order is ready for dispatch, with a link to pay.

CAD uploader

The customer drags in their .stl file. The portal works out the metal weight, multiplies by today’s price plus your margin, and shows the estimate alongside a 3D preview in the metal they’ve chosen. It’s clearly marked as an estimate until the order is placed. For trickier pieces they can request a manual quote from your team instead.

Design uploader

For when the customer is sending a sketch rather than a CAD. They tick whether they want a quote for CAD work or renders, and it lands in your team’s inbox.

New order

Order reference, delivery address, a ‘wait for full delivery’ option, the mould or CAD pulled from the customer’s library, metal choice and quantity.

Library

A grid of the customer’s moulds and CADs on file with their images and codes, so they can re-order from something they’ve cast before in a couple of clicks.

Checkout + Stripe

Hosted Stripe checkout. Customers pay for their orders directly through the portal.

Payments

All the customer’s invoices and credit notes in one place, with a pay-now button on anything still owed. Same view that sits at the bottom of the Orders page, also reachable from the top nav.

Login, register, account

Email and password to log in. Sign-up asks for the basics: name, address, contact details, VAT number, website, and which services they’re interested in.

Top-bar navigation goes Account, Orders, Library, Payments, log out. The logo takes the customer back to the dashboard.

What your team sees

Your team logs into the same portal and gets a different view. We’ll shape it around the way you actually run the day to day, with the exact features confirmed on the call.

  • Updating order status as the work moves through the workshop. The customer gets the email automatically.
  • Linking new moulds and CADs to a customer’s account.
  • Handling quote requests as they come in from the design uploader.
Timeline

Twelve weeks at most, start to finish.

If anything comes up in the first week that changes the shape of the build, we’ll flag it before going any further.

  1. Week 1

Getting to know how you work

We sit down with you and anyone else who runs orders day to day, and watch how you work now. We collect a handful of STL files we can use to calibrate the estimator, and confirm the seven order statuses and the staff-side workflow.

  2. Weeks 2–3

    Design

We build the early screens straight in code rather than as static mockups. Within two weeks you’ll have a private link to real working pages: dashboard, CAD viewer, order timeline. Two rounds of changes before we go any further.

  3. Weeks 4–9

    Build

Login, dashboard, orders, CAD uploader, design uploader, the new-order flow, library, checkout, the staff-side view and the customer emails. Built in that order so you can see progress every week.

  4. Week 10

    Content and polish

Loading your real customer list in. Calibrating the STL estimator against the sample pieces you’ve priced by hand. Switching Stripe live. Making sure the customer emails actually land in inboxes.

  5. Weeks 11–12

    Launch

We walk you through it, train your team on the staff-side view, point the subdomain at the new portal and go live. 30 days of support included after launch.

Indicative price

£4,995, pending a 30-minute call.

Indicative because we’d want a 30-minute call before treating it as final, but it’s the number we’d start from. The scope below is everything we’d build inside the twelve weeks.

Included

  • The ten customer screens shown above (dashboard, account, orders, CAD uploader, design uploader, new order, library, checkout, payments, login).
  • Staff-side view for managing the order pipeline, customer accounts, and the mould and CAD library.
  • 3D STL viewer with metal-priced estimate, calibrated against your sample pieces.
  • Stripe checkout, transactional emails, hosting on portal.responsiblecasting.com.
  • Twelve weeks end to end, plus 30 days of post-launch support.

Not included

  • Integrations with any third-party tools or external systems.
  • Changes to the Webflow marketing site.
  • Customer-facing reporting and analytics beyond order history.
  • Ongoing retainer (offered separately after launch).
Book the 30-minute call Or reply with a couple of times that work this week.
Next steps

If this feels right, here’s how it goes.

  1. 01

    Jump on a call

Thirty minutes together to walk through how your team will use the staff-side view, and lock in the final price and scope.

  2. 02

    We send the agreement

The final price, a start date and a fixed twelve-week timeline, all signed online.

  3. 03

    We get started

We kick off the week after you sign. You’ll see real working screens within the first two weeks.
